We are into the last week before Oscar’s big night, and the Writer’s Guild (WGA) and the Cinematographers (ASC) awards are the last to be revealed.

Any surprises? Well sort of..

For Cinematography, earlier thinking was Ari Wegner would win for “Power of the Dog” but Dune’s Greig Fraser took home the miniature camera or whatever they give for a trophy.

Dune has been on a roll for the more ‘technical’ side of the awards season. Can they keep it going for next Sunday?

Onto the writing awards, and CODA has continued it’s dominance for Adapted Screenplay, so would be a big surprise if it didn’t continue it’s winning ways.

But for Original Screenplay, it went to the Netflix hit “Don’t Look Up”. I wasn’t a fan of the film, but was a huge hit and least it’s divisive which makes for good water cooler chat. Does that even exist?

“Licorice Pizza” has been winning some of the other award shows so could be an interesting category on Sunday. Also note that “Power of the Dog” wasn’t eligible for the WGA awards.

Some would still say “Licorice Pizza” is still the front runner. This category could be a pivotal one to get right for the Oscar Pool.

Exciting! Good Luck.
